Birthday parties, crowded streets, classrooms full of kids, or even restaurants can all be very stressful situations for kids with sensory challenges. Remember this tip: just because your kiddo is covering his/her ears doesn't mean there's a loud noise. 
Sensory overload happens in all the senses. Since kids can't close their eyes while walking, stop breathing through their noses, or flee from all people, the easiest sense to "shut off" is blocking sound. Think about it.

Silly Stories: Back on the horse

Don't ever back-off or let the kids off easy because of their ASD diagnosis. Life lessons still need to be learned with a goal of independence in mind. 
Jake was washing our new car eariler and accidentally scratched the heck out of the paint with the end of the hose. He was so upset and filled with remorse, he cried himself to sleep. Today, Chris is taking him back to the car wash to "get back on the horse" and try again! Life lessons 101 are never easy or pain-free.
