Q & A with a Super Hero:
Holiday Helper
Let’s talk about holidays. Are they hard?
Yes.
Why?
Well, there’s visitors coming.
What’s hard about visitors coming?
They talk differently and they give me more directions.
What else is hard?
It’s hard having people in the house.
Why?
Well I just don’t know what’s going to happen then.
So you’re saying visitors change your schedule?
Yes.
Why is that bad? We usually do more fun things when visitors are here.
I don’t like certain people because they change things.
What do they change?
They change friends, they tell me what to do, and get mad at me.
Tell me what Christmas makes you feel like?
It feels boring and sometimes strange because I don’t know what present I might get. I want to put surprises in the garbage.
What’s wrong with a surprise present? Doesn’t everyone love presents?
I like presents but I need to pick them out.
What if you get a cool present that you didn’t pick out?
Sad. Because I wasn’t ready for it.
Do you like holiday break?
Yes. But visitors are the problem.
Do you get excited or nervous when holidays are coming?
Yes. I only get upset in November, June and August because I’m off of school.
So if you had homework over the break and schedule would that make it better?
Yes. (enthusiastic)
Do you like to relax at home or go to school?
I like to relax with momma’s schedule.
Tell me about going to visit other people during break?
That’s good.
So it’s better to go away to visit, than it is to stay home and have visitors?
Yes – totally.
Do you want a Christmas tree?
Yes.
Would you like one present or a bunch of presents?
A bunch – probably 6. Six American Girl dolls and a mini iPad.
Do you like having big meals on holidays?
Yes, but not with a friend because it makes me want to say hurtful things.
Like what?
Go away from me and never come back… stab… and kill.
When you get upset from having people in the house, what’s the best way to calm down?
Use a weighted blanket, super vest, gum and a super-hot shower with lots of steam. Brushing and lotion helps me calm down.
What does it feel like when many people are here, and we laugh really loud?
It makes me want to pound on everything.
You pound when you’re what?
Over-stimulated.
Do scented candles bother you?
Yes.
How?
Because I smell it all the way in my room.
I like holidays but they’re just super-duper hard. Is Santa coming?
