Written after Jake had a severe meltdown and stabbed himself. 7.3.19
Jake asked to write this to help people and save “my life by educating others. “
”Hi this is Jake. I got really scared when all the power went out at a restaurant on Tuesday. It came back on and all the alarms sounded really loud. It scared me SO MUCH. I had to leave but it was a huge storm. We got very wet and I was still very scared. I got home and still couldn’t calm down. I even tried the punching bag. Mom tried to help me but I threw a lamp-table. A glass vase broke and went everywhere. I got really scared that daddy and mommy were mad at me. They were so scared too. I picked up big piece of glass and stabbed my arm. I wanted to hurt myself because I was upset and wanted more help. I don’t even remember doing it. I got so scared when I looked at the big cut and worried I was going to die. Daddy held a dish towel really tight on my arm. There was blood on my new white tennis shoes. We had to call the police. Five police and an ambulance came and took me to the hospital. One policeman yelled, “does he have a weapon”? I got scared bc I didn’t want people mad at me and didn’t know what was going to happen next. The ER doctor sewed arm back together with 15 stitches and I liked watching. I am not sure he understood autism or fearful behaviors. I didn’t want it to hurt like my knee surgery did. Dr. Laje, my psychiatrist, drove all the way during rush hour, to visit me and help me breathe. Mommy and I had to stay overnight for a psych evaluation the next morning. I was nervous. I didn’t sleep great but daddy brought my blanket and taggies. My behavior therapist emailed mommy. I think I would feel safer at a school where I could live and be surrounded by doctors who know me, all day long. I want to build this school near KKS:MCC so my teachers still have access to me.
In the future, I need to help people with disabilities by making sure they get counseling and crisis intervention without mad faces or angry voices. We need a crisis team and vehicle in our county. No more restraints or safe holds. Everyone should treat people with disabilities in a very kind way. Talk gentle, don’t touch, and just help us. We are smart and need to change how the world treats us. Have a good July 4th celebration, but no fireworks by my house. “

Jake just spent :30 writing this essay in the notes on his phone. Our deal is, an adult must see everything he publishes. This is his brain, his heart and his passion. (Editing by mom included adding periods and commas only).

What is important about my life is, you should be told one time only. my tae Kwon do teacher in class says if it's time for dinner, mom and dad need to say one time. not more than 4 times. follow Directions! also some instead of four some people have different expectations and that's ok we are mature and we are flexible. Officer Laurie says that we can say calm and able to communicate with being scared. Everyone has nice family's & police officers it all depends on each person. I do but it's okay we can talk to mom and dad and police officers. they are safe strangers. they are my family. we can be flexible and stay calm.
